This bug report will be sent to the Bug-GNU-Emacs mailing list
and the GNU bug tracker at debbugs.gnu.org. Please check that
the From: line contains a valid email address. After a delay of up
to one day, you should receive an acknowledgment at that address.

Please write in English if possible, as the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators for other languages.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug, and
the precise symptoms of the bug. If you can, give a recipe
starting from `emacs -Q':

In (info "(efaq) Saving a copy of outgoing mail"), there is an
expression:
(setq mail-archive-file-name (expand-file-name "~/outgoing"))

I think this expression is better:
(setq mail-default-headers "FCC: ~/outgoing")

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
For information about debugging Emacs, please read the file
/usr/local/share/emacs/24.2.92/etc/DEBUG.

Why do you think so?

Because Message mode has been the default mode for editing and sending mail since Emacs 23.2, and `mail-archive-name' is for Mail mode.

But mail-default-headers is for Mail mode too, so it doesn't seem any
better in this regard.

Anyway, if you look at the default value of
message-default-mail-headers, you will see it consults both
mail-archive-file-name and mail-default-headers, so they all have the
same effect.

(In general, the Emacs FAQ is extremely crufty and hardly likely to
answer any question frequently asked today.)

IIRC `mail-archive-file-name' is only for Mail mode.

I think this has been fixed at some point in the eight years since it
was reported:

(defcustom message-default-mail-headers
  ;; Ease the transition from mail-mode to message-mode. See bugs#4431, 5555.
  (concat (if (and (boundp 'mail-default-reply-to)

[...]

	  (if (and (boundp 'mail-archive-file-name)
		   (stringp mail-archive-file-name))
	      (format "Fcc: %s\n" mail-archive-file-name))
	  mail-default-headers)

So I think the FAQ is OK as it is, and I'm closing this bug report.
