There is no replacement for gnus-sync. That makes it impossible to sync
gnus data between emacs versions.

Considering the number of known users of gnus-sync was in the single
digits, I think that's OK. If you disagree, take a look at gnus-sync and
see if you can propose a way to support it with gnus-cloud. I don't see
a simple way.
Thanks

gnus-cloud does not work. gnus-sync does.

That's not the direction I want to take, though.
If you disagree, take a look at gnus-sync and see if you can propose a
way to support it with gnus-cloud.

I don't understand. gnus-sync works ootb.

I've made the decision to stop supporting gnus-sync in favor of
gnus-cloud. The decision is based on number of users, data store
consistency, and the implementation details.
I'm closing this ticket because it's not a bug that gnus-sync is
missing, and I don't think enough Gnus user eyeballs will catch it here
if we discuss it as a feature. If you want to bring gnus-sync back,
please post in the Gnus mailing list and we can discuss the specifics.
Thanks
Ted

None of that is relevant if gnus-cloud does not work.

Your argument is entirely negative.

The name "gnus-cloud" has a problem -- it uses the word "cloud"
which is a buzzword that spreads confusion. Using that term is harmful.
(See https://gnu.org/philosophy/words-to-avoid.html#CloudComputing.)
What does this facility do? Surely we can find a coherent and
non-confusing name for it.

We had that discussion in emacs-devel. I don't think it belongs in this
bug report.

I will move it emacs-devel, to oblige you, but it's an important issue.

When was that? What was in the subject field?

Thank you. Don't do it to oblige me, but because it's already been
discussed so we don't retread the same arguments :)

Your initial post, subject "instead of gnus-cloud.el"
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2016-07/msg00552.html
I had some followups, last one:
