Actually it works with "AAAA BC CCCC" but indeed it
failed with "ABCD EF JHKL".

Fixed by 78c9c2a110aa94e82c90549c81e8911a006ee538

If we release a 26.3 it'd be good to include that trivial fix in there,
but currently the emacs-26 branch is read-only so I only pushed it
to master.
