Subject: gzip -k modify stuff instead of compress them

Hi, I'm trying to compress a directory but the only thing i can get is a
bunch of compressed files in this directory.

First: -k option changed the content of these directory, making them
unusable
Second: It never create a SINGLE archive?

What did I missed?
