I have the with-editor package, but: a) it's up-to-date b) removing it from the configuration did not solve the problem, c) running emacsclient from outside of Emacs gives the same error. :( Noam Postavsky <npostavs <at> gmail.com> ezt írta (időpont: 2020. okt. 11., V, 14:24): > Lars Ingebrigtsen <larsi <at> gnus.org> writes: > > > Gábor <hajovonta <at> gmail.com> writes: > > > >> When issuing 'emacsclient README' command in a terminal (Emacs is > >> running and server is started), I get the following: > >> > >> Waiting for Emacs... > >> *ERROR*: Wrong number of arguments: (1 . 4), 5 > > > > Do you use the with-emacs package? starting with emacs -Q however, emacsclient works properly. Yes, make sure debug-on-signal and debug-on-error are both non-nil in the Emacs that runs the server, then you will have the backtrace pop up in Emacs. Assuming there's some frame visible for the server, that is.

The problem seems to be with having two different versions of with-editor installed. Removed the older one and emacsclient behavior is now normal.
