I frequently do a git clone to test fixes in emacs, but the clone does not
use the version number as post-fix.

git clone -b master git://git.sv.gnu.org/emacs.git

With many clone versions, everything gets very confusing.

This is how git works.  If you want to have other names for the
directories, then "mv" the directory after cloning.
