As discussed in bug#53890, it'd be nice to be able to customize face
colors with an alpha channel component.  I guess this could be done
by accepting as valid color strings of the form "#RRGGBBAA", and then
have the ability of specifying an opacity everywhere a color can be used
in a face definition (foreground, background, underline, boxes...).
