Nonetheless, from a users view, think it's a major inconvenience.
Would qualify it as a bug mentioned in the docu.

Suggest leaving this report open, until someone cures it.

(I'm going through old bug reports that unfortunately weren't resolved
at the time.)

I've now made the command signal an error in Emacs 29 in these cases.
