automake --version isn't work

In Docker(in the vmware ubunt also has the problem):

Ubuntu 20.04 5.15.0-78-generic.
 
Automake1.4 from ftp://gcc.gnu.org/pub/java/automake-gcj-1.4.tar.gz.

And the readme don¡¯t have anything about this ,so I sent the message.

This is a very old version of automake.  Do you still have the problem if you use https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/automake/automake-1.16.tar.gz instead?

correction: please try <https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/automake/automake-1.16.5.tar.gz>,
which is really the most recent release.
