It's not a bug in mumi.
I had a look at the patch mail again, which for some reason has this in
the headers:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=yes
I generated the mail with =git-send-email=, so bug seems to be
originating from somewhere in there.
Anyways, it's not mumi, so this ticket could be closed.
