After the patch proposed in bug#75779 was merged, the bug was still unresolved when persist-defvar received a nil INITVALUE argument.

It turns out that passing a nil INITVALUE argument is quite common; mastodon.el, activities.el, and org-gcal.el are all still affected.

This patch resolves the bug, hopefully once and for all.
