Ok, try with this:
#+begin_src emacs-lisp
;; -*- lexical-binding: t -*-
(defun my-isearch-test ()
(interactive)
(let ((buffer (get-buffer-create "*Isearch Test*")))
(pop-to-buffer buffer)
(save-excursion
(apply #'insert
"\n"
`(,@(mapcar (lambda (_)
(concat "The end of this line contains inv"
(propertize "isible" 'invisible t)
" text\n"))
(number-sequence 1 10))
"\n")))))
#+end_src
Isearch for "isible". =F0=9F=98=9E. Then retry with search-invisible -> t.
Michael.

It had been my own mode where I was facing the problem. I thought folding.el would be a good playground. It is, but it also hacks isearch to open its own folds, so isearch opens folding's folds no matter the values of the relevant isearch options. Let me try to create some Elisp that creates a test buffer... Michael.

Ok, yes, I agree - I should have thought more about it. But note: when there is invisible text that is not made invisible because of an overlay property, but because of a text property, then search-invisible -> t searches normally and finds the matches, although it doesn't open (obviously). But search-invisible -> open dings and says "no matches". There is the indication of invisible matches, yes, but this always confuses me every time it happens. So I _do_ use search-invisible -> t in some cases. In most of these cases I probably don't want to toggle to the 'open' behavior, though. So not having a command that does what I suggested is probably ok. Michael.

What I meant is that when I tested the fixes for bugs with searching invisible text, I toggled 'search-invisible' between 'open' and t to cover all cases. But during actual use, I never needed to change 'open' to t to find the results without showing their context. Usually it should be sufficient to see the number of invisible matches in isearch prompt (when 'search-invisible' is toggled to nil) than not to see where the match is located (when 'search-invisible' is t).

Ok, it was a hot day, but "match invisible text" and "match visible text" really look very similar (optically). And also "match invisible text" actually means "match invisible and visible text". It's... it's just generally not a good choice of wording, IMO. And the significant differences of the non-nil binding of `search-invisible' are not communicated at all (and it's a pity that there is no cycling between the three different kinds of behavior - all three are useful in some situations, this is not only just a matter of personal taste). So, at least I want to suggest to change the feedback to something like "match invisible text" vs. "don't match invisible text" or "match invisible text" vs. "match only visible text" but I also would be interested in the opinion of other people who use these isearch feature about my other remark (about how "open invisible" is merged in this toggle). TIA, Michael.
