20260803 A couple of days of thrashing shows that the Emacs hyperbole
package will not instantiate its menu if the SHELL
environmental variable is set to /usr/bin/tcsh (even if it
is invoked via bash).
M-x hyperbole / C-h h / and initial start-up result in the following:
